About us

Hi Everyone!

We are a team of Singaporeans and Johoreans who have either lived in Johor Bahru (Johor Baru, Johore Bahru, Johor Baharu) a good part of our lives or travel across the causeway from Singapore/Johor Bahru frequently.

While the pace of development between Singapore and Malaysia is greatly varied over the past decade, we are still fond of the many attractions in Johor Bahru. The food, nature, slower pace of life and of course, the lower cost of living in Johor Bahru allures to us and we are sure you will be able to appreciate some of the things here if you make an occasional trip across the causeway. There are definitely plenty of things to do and sights to savour here, be it shopping for groceries, teeing off at the greens, jogging at the Sultan’s Garden or having your wedding shots taken..

Welcome to limsimi.com, a Johor Bahru website that caters to people across both sides of the bridge (Singaporeans and Malaysians) and beyond. Our aim for this website is to provide updated news on Johor Bahru – nice food recommendations, new hotels and interesting activities. Do share your knowledge with us by submitting your articles to us or posting your comments. We hope to build up an online community here, where people can just come here to read, relate and relax.

Happy hunting!

Really apperciate the useful info you guys provide for drivers like me.

I wonder if you have a map to show me how to go from Singapore thru the CIQ and directly to the E2 NS Highway towards Malacca and KL? I came thru on 23-Jan and was a bit lost, finding no easy way to get onto E2. Similarly, do you have a map coming the other way that directs me driving from the NS Highway to the JB CIQ? Thx.

i need to drive to JB from singapore, what is the situation with the touch’n go card now? do u still need it if i’m using second link and can i still purchase it there and then ? appreciate your help

    [Reply]

    adminNo Gravatar Reply:

For Second Link (Linkedua), you can still pay cash at tolls. However, it is really much easier with the TNG Card.
U can purchase it there and then (at the Toll stations). Do standby Ringgits. There was once when I did not have enough ringgits.. and paid using Sing$ @#$#$#@!

I would like to check. Danga Bay and Danga City Mall is it far apart from one another? I am still abit confused.

    [Reply]

    adminNo Gravatar Reply:

Danga City Mall is a shopping center, located some 3km from the JB CIQ. Danga Bay is a stretch area that has shopping, makan, leisure parks, located further away from the JB CIQ (15minutes ride away). If you drive from the JB CIQ to Danga Bay, you actually pass by Danga City Mall first.

Thumbs up to the Limsimi.com team for a very imformative website on Johor Bahru!

I am planning to move to Johor Bahru and trying to get as much info as I can on this city and came across this helpful website.

Right now, I am hunting for an apartment and looking for a convenient area to live as I do not drive. I am looking at Permas Jaya and Pelangi area.

Any suggestions or advise from anyone is appreciated. Anyone who knows anyone renting out can keep me posted too. Thanks!

Thanks Irene for your comments and welcome to Johor Bahru!
To help answer some of your queries, would u mind sharing where are you relocating from and if you are looking for accomodation for your family, or only yourself?
Good to note that if you do not drive, traveling around JB is a little hard unless you work near your home.

What is Exact distance from Kranji MRT Station (Singapore) to Larking Bus Station (Johor) & how much time will take to cove the distance

I assume you are taking bus 170 which goes to Larkin? That will take u about 45 minutes if there are no jam at the Johor Bahru CIQ.

There are buses that departs from Larkin to KL and cheap ones (28 seaters) will cost you about RM$40-50.

Hi Kang, the price of RM$41.99 is an offer price. Usually, they will sell it at about RM$50+.

One thing you can do is to visit their websites. Usually, such promotional items will be listed.

    See our posts here:

Hi Kfang, I just came from Tesco Johor Bahru. Mamy Poko selling RM$48.99 for Medium Size, 66 pcs. On top of that, they also give away 2 free baby diaper pants. Not a good deal compared to Carrefour during their promotion period but good enough for me.

The Huggies dry comfort is selling at RM$33.99 for 66 pcs. Medium size too!

Overall, thanks to limsimi.com for the recommendation on Johor Bahru Supermarkets. I really feel that this is good savings compared to Cold Storage or NTUC in SG.

if u are driving into JB via Johor-woodlands customs. be careful!!
the newly renovated malaysia customs has many malaysia customs officer/policeman waiting the bend for Singapore licence plate cars. They will flag you down and ask for 150-300 dollars.
if you do not pay, they will threaten to book you for speeding or other ridiculous traffic violations

Hi Kelly, and to add on, I find that Johor Bahru BS photoshopped wedding photos with an overdose of contrast, which sometimes makes the person who appears in the photo too “unreal”. So it might be good to ask them to tone down a little – you might not look more fantastic but at least the photos still look like you!

    [Reply]

    adminNo Gravatar Reply:

Preferably, Prebooking is the way to go.

Most people take the coach at Larkin or at Merlin Tower. If you are taking 950, might want to consider stopping off the Johor Bahru custom and walking to Merlin tower to make the VIP coach booking.

Like Sher and Arman Beri, I am looking for reliable movers in JB or Singapore to move my household items. Am moving house from Singapore to JB; need to find out if its better to engage a mover in Singapore or from JB and what clearance I would need from Malaysian Kastam. Thank you for assistance.

#Lilian Chia ~ re property prices, I think unlike Singapore where land is a luxury, it is readily available in JB, and there are so many new developments around Austin area, and also the new Iskandar area with emphasis on gated communities. I am guessing because of this, property prices in JB will vary according to the area, amenities, security etc and probably not unusual for prices in certain areas to stay depressed for some time to come given the over-supply situation. A quick check with trustworthy agents in JB should give you a clearer picture. Best of luck!

Is there anyone who know of nursing homes charging “reasonable” price in JB?

Hi Ahkee, not sure why it is not possible for your husband to retire in SG?

As a start, please do a search on our website for MM2H – definitely, it is good to enroll into this scheme if you intend to retire in M’sia.

Hi everyone! I am moving to JB soon in one months time and I really need all the help I can get. I would really appreciate if any kind soul would give me advice.
A little info about our situation. I am married, no children and I am Singaporean and my husband is Turk. We decided to move to JB cause the housing and rentals here are ridiculously high. And there are too much people and its becoming a real chore just going out. We moved back to Singapore from Middle east to start 2 branch companies here and we do miss the big space (not the heat) and having pets as well as driving (makes no sense to drive for us in Singapore).

    1) We are looking for rental for the time being since we are travelling and staying abroad quite often.
We are looking for 1) inexpensive rental 2) service centers nearby 3) chinese or expat dominated areas 4) good to very good internet connections

    2) My husband’s visa is 3 months each time for MY. Will he have any problems to go back to Malaysia after a couple of days or weeks abroad through singapore or other countries?

    3) Any recommendations for a delivery company that is inexpensi ve from Singapore to our new place?

    4) How much do we need to pay in advance for rentals? 3 months? If I engage an agent, what are the commission structure like?

    5) Are rental lease on a yearly basis?

    6) I would probably arrange for shipping of about 1/2 container of our stuff from Dubai to Malaysia. Would it be cheaper if I just buy? I would appreciate if anyone could also share info on second hand places or websites in JB.
    7) Sorry for so many questions and I sounded really cheapo. Money is a little tight for us right now due to the new companies and also paid an arm and leg in singapore rentals since we did not choose singapore as our choice of property investments (overpriced and small :P )

    8) I really dont know what else I could ask or take note off so any info given is most helpful. I remembered reading an article here about relocating to JB but cant seem to find it now.

Hi. I got a promotion and will be starting work in Singapore in April.

My office is near Clementi. I am wondering where in JB should I stay? I am thinking of either the Nusa Perdana apartments or a condo in Bukit Indah.

I dont intend to drive into Singapore, but take a Causeway Link Bus. My questions are

    a) Are there any condo in Bukit Indah that are along a bus route into Singapore
    b) is it better to stay in a Bukit Indah condo or the Nusa Perdana Apartment?

My working hours are very flexible (can reach office by 11am and leave at 8pm)

Hope you can give me some tips.
