Ramadan ‘Buka Puasa’ Promotion 2011 at Thistle Johor Bahru

This Ramadhan, Thistle Johor Bahru has lined up exciting promotions and the one which seemed to have caught on its own followers would be the return of ‘Ramadan Bazaar @ Thistle’ at Orchid Ballroom, following its huge success last year.

‘Ramadan Bazaar @ Thistle’ promotes hawker style food at individual stalls such as Seafood BBQ that features Prawn, Salmon Steak, Squid, Red Snapper, Sea Bass and Sting Ray with a mouth-watering variety of Sambal and choice of sauces. If smoke is the signal you recognise, then head on directly to the Satay stall which also features Yakitori and ‘Otak-Otak’. Another break fast ‘must have’ is ‘Bubur Lambuk’ a famous Malaysian-styled porridge, which will be prepared in its original recipe and a ‘must-try’ seafood version. Find other stalls of Roast Lamb, Murtabak & Prata, Stir Fried Noodles, Rojak Mamak, Burgers, ‘Roti John’, Noodles and Pasta (featuring the famous Laksa Johor and ‘Bakso’) as well as Lok Lok ‘steamboat’. However, the favourite stall may still be the Fritter Stall which dishes out Deep Fried Durian in crispy pastry, ‘Keropok Lekor’, Spring Rolls, Mantau and ‘Cucur Udang’. Another stall that has been equally ‘ambushed’ last year is the Deep Fried Stall which produces Deep Fried Quail, Pandan-wrapped and Whole Spiced Fried Chicken, right out of the wok.

Korean Family Restaurant, Johor Bahru

For a taste of authentic Korean food in Johor Bahru, you MUST try the Korean Family Restaurant located at N0 185, Jln Seri Pelangi, Taman Pelangi. It is situated at the row of shop houses besides the three conspicuous petrol kiosks (Shell, Esso, Caltex).

The main fares of this restaurant are the various BBQ sets which cater for between 2-10 pax. When the food (raw cuttlefish, squid, beef, eel, Japanese mushrooms, corn, pork) comes, the waitress will do the BBQ for you. You need not worry about lingering smoke smell on your clothes as air filters built right at mouth of the heating plate absorb most of the smoke before it even reaches you. Once the BBQ is done, you wrap the food with fresh lettuce and Korean sauce – and pop into your mouth. As you masticate to savour the food, you can also ponder upon which of the 10 side dishes (which include Kim Chi, vegetables and bean-curds; comes free with every set) you want to try next.
