In another incident that is hard to swallow, a SBS Bus 160 Driver was slashed with parang by a man after driving the bus out of Kotaraya shopping center last evening.
In case you are not aware where Kotaraya Shopping Center is, it is less than 500m from City Square!!
It was believed that the incident happened while the driver was trying to close the bus doors to prevent a robbery by a few attackers. He was slashed by one of the attackers in the process. The driver, reportedly a Singapore PR in his thirties was immediately taken to a hospital in Johor in the interim and will be transferred to Singapore. Attackers are still at large.

Safety and Security in Johor Bahru
In Johor Bahru, we are used to snatch thefts and the occasional burglary (see our post here).
What happened in Pasir Gudang last Thursday however, still got us shaking our heads in disbelief, in disappointment and helplessness.
What Happened:
At Taman Air Baru (a 25minutes drive from Johor Bahru City Square), a group of robbers numbering around 30 (30!!), unloaded from motorcycles and stormed into Jiason Supermarket. In a well coordinated operation, they went to the cashier and demanded money. As they were armed with parangs and short knives, the cashiers were helpless and quickly emptied the cash to the robbers. One of the common topics that is always mooted upon the mention of Johor Bahru (Johor Baru, Johore Bahru, Johor Baharu) is the crime rate and safety issue.
