Driving a Malaysia-registered car into Singapore
March 29th, 2009 lawrence.gan
Driving into Singapore from Johor Bahru? Here are some noteworthy facts about driving a Malaysia-registered car into Singapore.
1. Singapore citizens, Permanent Residents (regardless of their place of residence), student pass holder, long term social visit pass holder and residents of Singapore cannot drive a Malaysia-registered car in/into Singapore. However, Singaporeans working and residing in Malaysia who need to make home visits to Singapore occasionally are allowed to drive their Malaysia-registered cars into Singapore on a case-by-case basis, subjected to prior approval from LTA (VEP fees will still apply).
2. If you do not fall into any of the categories in (1), you can drive a Malaysia registered car into Singapore.
3. For Malaysia-registered cars, a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee of S$20 is required for weekday entry from 2am – 5pm into Singapore. However, each vehicle number is granted 10 free passes/year (as tracked from the vehicle number/ autopass card).
4. Free entry into Singapore from 5pm – 2am during weekdays and for whole day during weekends and public holidays (noneed for payment of VEP fees).
5. You pay toll of S$1.20 (at Woodlands Checkpoint, for departure only) or S$S4.60 (at Tuas Checkpoint, for both arrival and departure).
6. Flat rate of ERP charge at S$5/day, if you do not have an In-Vehicle Unit in your vehicle and happens to chance upon at least 1 operational ERP gantry.
7. There will be an administrative fee of S$10 imposed if you pay your VEP fees and/or toll charges in cash at any Singapore Checkpoint, if your Autopass card does not have sufficient credits.
8. You can be fined or taken to court if you:
i. Drive into Singapore without an Autopass Card for your vehicle
ii. Use an Autopass Card belonging to another foreign-registered vehicle
iii. There are no records of your vehicle’s entry/exit information on your Autopass Card upon exit and entry respectively
iv. You use a CashCard to register your entry and exit records or for VEP/Toll Payment instead of an Autopass card.
9. You can do those beng-beng things like printing your name and blood group (and that of your girlfriend) on your car body. But a 95% window tint, white smoke from exhaust and Nitrous injection devices will still land you into trouble with LTA and the LAW. The clutches of Singapore rules and regulations apply to Malaysia registered cars too.
Finally, drive with caution, forget about the exchange rate, and enjoy your stay in Singapore.

Hi, can u confirm how long a malaysia-registered car can stay in Singapore for a single entry? Is there any limitation?

1 month (same period of stay as the driver). However, if you park in SG for 1 month, you need to pay 30 days * S$20 = $600. There are 10 free days/ year given to each Malaysian Registered Vehicle. Not a good deal at all.

Driving a Malaysian car into Singapore in Nov. Since Hotel’s in Orchard, do you suggest JB Causeway or 2nd Link?
If I chance upon an unmanned ERP gantry, can I pay the $5 fee using dollar notes instead of coins?
Tx!

Hi Siverado,
Just go to the checkpoint that is closer to you. If you stay in JB City area, go by the JB Causeway. Otherwise, the time it takes from both checkpoints to Orchard is about the same.
ERP is paid and collected from your autopass at checkpoints when you depart from Singapore. There is no cash collection on the point at the gantry. All ERP gantries in Singapore are unmanned.

Hi there,
Thanks so much for putting up this really useful information. I am a Malaysian and will be driving a Malaysian-Registered car into Singapore for the very first time next week. It appears, thankfully, that my car isn’t beng beng with funny modifications and opaque glass, so that’s fine. But what is an AutoPass and how does one get his/her hands on one? And I hear that they check the fuel levels? What’s up with that?
Thanking you in advance….

Hi Ennui,
Singapore-Registered cars are required to have a 3/4 tank full of petrol before they depart from SG to Malaysia. There is no such ruling for Malaysian Registered vehicles for both entry/departure to SG. You do not have to be concerned with that.
You will need to register your autopass at the Singapore custom after you have cleared the immigration booth. Lookout for the autopass sign after your passport is stampled.

Singaporeans and their rules. When we drive into their tiny little country, they imposed so many regulations. But just look at the Singaporeans driving in Malaysia- they flout our traffic rules like nobody’s business, drive at breakneck speeds on our highways and best of all, they’re not charged any VEP, ERP and what not. They behave like little monkeys, escaped from tiny little cages of theirs when they’re here.

Your car is still subjected to Singapore regulations.
Note that LTA rules require vehicle windscreens and front windows to allow at least 70 per cent light through. Rear windows must let through a minimum of 25 per cent of light.

hi admin, thank you for having this page.
I am driving to Resorts World Sentosa in mid-April. I believe that as a Malaysian driving a Malaysian-registered car, after clearing the customs I go to the office to get an Autopass for S$10.
Since first time this year I’m driving to SG, guess no need to no pay for VEP since it’s free for 10 days a year.
But the confusing thing is, the ERP S$5 flat rate deducted from the value stored in the Autopass, or a separate charge payable at the customs area? And I thought gantrys were overhead hanging beams with devices detecting cars as they pass underneath?
[Reply]

March 26th, 2010 at 10:41 PM
Hi Din, the S$5 is deducted from your autopass upon exit at the Singapore customs. The gantrys hanging overhead were for vehicles with IU unit which your vehicle would not have. Nevertheless, the cameras attached will still identify your vehicle number and ensure you pay your $5 due before you exit SG at the customs.

Perhaps, you might want to reference the link below as a confirmation from LTA:

Hi PING,
you can only drive a total of 10 weekdays to Singapore.
Weekends are free and will not count towards the 10 days.
Once u exceed the 10 days, you need to pay $20/day per weekday entry before 5pm.

Hi Poovan,
you can buy the In-Vehicle Unit (IVU) from Sim Ming Drive in Singapore (LTA Office) but not many Malaysians do it. You need to carefully weigh the cost of:
1. Installing the IVU ($151.45)
2. Difference in ERP rates (Fixed rate of $10.00/day or as used)
You can park anywhere with your Malaysian Car but bear in mind that from 7pm-7am, Season Parking lots (marked in red) are not available for use. Coupons can be bought from any provision shops, 7-11 and even supermarket.
Perharps, the following note from LTA would provide some clarity:
Frequently Asked Questions
(A) Foreign motorists without an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) in their cars
1. Can I drive a foreign-registered car without an IU on ERP-priced
roads?
A: Yes, you can drive on any ERP-priced roads during ERP operational
hours without installing an IU in your car. You will be charged an ERP
fee of S$10 for each day you drive on ERP-priced roads.
This fee is payable with your Autopass card when you depart from the
checkpoint. Just remember to have your Autopass card topped up (at 7-
Eleven stores, selected petrol stations, top-up booths near the
checkpoints and local bank ATMs) with sufficient cash balance to pay
for ERP fees, VEP fees and toll charges before you proceed to the
checkpoint.
Please note that there is no Autopass card top-up facility within the
checkpoint premises.
2. How do I pay the ERP fees incurred?
A: The ERP system would detect foreign-registered cars without IU driving
past any ERP gantry during ERP operational hours. On your departure at
Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint, the appropriate ERP fees (at a daily rate
of S$10) would be deducted from your Autopass card.
3. Can I pay for the fixed ERP charge on the same day I depart from
Singapore?
A: Yes. The fee would be automatically deducted from your Autopass card
when you insert your card into the card reader mounted at the
immigration booth (departure zone)
4. Can I choose not to be on the fixed ERP rate scheme?
A: If you do not wish to be on the fixed ERP rate scheme, you will need to
either rent an IU or install an IU permanently on your car.
The cost of renting an IU is S$5 per day, subject to a minimum of S$10.
You will also need to pay a refundable deposit of $121.15 (inclusive of
GST). Alternatively, you can choose to install an IU permanently in
your car at a cost of S$151.45 (inclusive of GST).
5. Will all foreign-registered cars be able to enjoy the fixed ERP fees
scheme?
A: Yes.
6. How did LTA arrive at the S$10 fixed charge?
A: LTA took into account the cost of renting a temporary IU and the
average ERP charges incurred by a foreign motorist each day.
7. Where can I get more information on this fixed ERP fees scheme?
A: You can get more information from the brochures on VEP and the ERP
daily fee scheme. These brochures are available at any immigration
booths or VEP/Toll offices of either Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint,
Singapore High Commission in KL, STB’s office in KL, and LTA’s
office at 10 Sin Ming Drive Singapore 575701. Alternatively, they can
also go to http://www.lta.gov.sg or http://www.onemotoring.com.sg for more
information.
8. Are there any other uses for the IU other than for paying ERP fees?
A: There are some car parks in Singapore that provides an option for
motorists to pay their car park fees with a Cashcard/Autopass Card
inserted in their IU. However, if you do not have an IU installed in your
car, you can still use these car parks. You can either pay your car park
fees using cash or with your Cashcard/Autopass Card. There is also a
“Help” button at the car park entrance if you need any assistance.
(B) Foreign motorists with an IU in their cars
1. I already have an IU installed in my car. Can I still choose to be
under the fixed ERP fees scheme?
A: Yes. However, you must first have the IU removed or de-commissioned.
This must be done at any IU inspection centre in Singapore. Once the
IU is de-commissioned, you will automatically come under fixed ERP
fees scheme. The IU inspection centres charge a service fee of S$11 to
remove an IU.
2. Can I dismantle my IU at any other workshop?
A: No. Removal of IUs can only be made at authorised IU centres listed in
the ERP brochure or as listed on the LTA website at http://www.lta.gov.sg or
http://www.onemotoring.com.sg
3. Can I choose not to remove my IU but still be on the fixed ERP rate
scheme?
A: No. If you do not remove your IU, the system would record a violation
when there is no CashCardin the IU. You will then need to pay an
administrative charge of $10 and the corresponding ERP fees.
(C) General
1. I drive a foreign registered vehicle. What are the things I have to
note before driving into Singapore?
A: You must have an Autopass card for your vehicle before you enter
Singapore via Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint. Autopass cards are
issued at all VEP/Tolls office in Singapore Checkpoint arrival zones and
they cost S$10 each, comprising a non-refundable card cost of S$6 and a
pre-loaded cash value of S$4 in the card. You have to produce your
vehicle’s valid road tax disc for verification at the point of card
issuance. It is an offence for a foreign motorist to enter Singapore
without an Autopass card for his foreign-registered vehicle.
2. Can I drive on ERP-priced roads ?
A: Yes. You can choose to pay the ERP fee on a per pass basis. This will
require you to first rent or install an IU in your vehicle. You will then
need to insert a Cashcard or your Autopass Card into the IU when you
drive past an ERP gantry.
Alternatively, if you do not want to install an IU, the fixed ERP fees
scheme will apply. All foreign motorists can drive on ERP roads in
Singapore without the need to rent or install an IU for their cars. The
ERP fee is chargeable at a flat rate of S$10 for each day a foreignregistered
car is used on ERP roads during ERP-operation hours.
3. Where can I top-up my Autopass card for payment of VEP fees,
tolls and ERP charges (for foreign registered cars only) at the
checkpoint?
A: You should top up your Autopass card with sufficient cash balance in
Singapore before you proceed to the Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoints
for departure. Please note that there is no Autopass card top-up facility
within the checkpoint premises.
You can top up your Autopass at any 7-Eleven outlets (which operate 24
hours daily) or any Autopass card top-up booths located along
Woodlands Centre Road, Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim and Turf Club Avenue
in Singapore. Alternatively, if you have an account with banks such as
DBS, OCBC or UOB in Singapore, you can also choose to top up your
Autopass card at any ATMs of these local banks. There will be an
administrative fee of S$10 imposed upon motorists who have
insufficient cash balance in their Autopass card to pay for their
VEP/toll/ERP fees at the checkpoint departures.
4. Is there any way I can keep track of the charges I’m paying? E.g.
receipt?
A: A breakdown of fees deducted from Autopass card would be shown at
the card reader display at immigration booth. If you require a receipt,
you can obtain one at the VEP/Toll office of Woodlands or Tuas
Checkpoint.
5. What is the penalty if I do not have enough stored value in my
Autopass card at the checkpoint?
A: A S$10 admin fee is payable and you have to pay the VEP fees, toll
charges and ERP fees (for foreign registered cars) incurred in Singapore
currency.

You mention ERP fixed rate at SGD 5 per day but LTA FAQ it was mentioned SGD 10 per day.
How can I check how much is charged / used on the autopass card so that I know how much to top up before going home?

Hi admin,
Thks for the useful site. Under post 56, it was mentioned that we need to produce our valid road tax disc to buy the autopass, but our Malaysian road tax disc is now glued to the windscreen and cannot be removed without damaging it. So, I am wondering is there an alternative way to buy the autopass? Thank you.

Hi Mark, upon application, the Singapore Custom Officer will come out and inspect the road disc at your car if it is glued.
You will not need to remove it. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi,
Planning to bring my family to Singapore this July by car. If you don’t mind sharing, what are the requirements and documents to bring along with me about the car etc. Heard that certain areas in the city are not accessible via private vehicle, how’s that and there’s a card that you need to purchase upon entry.. pls share experience. Will be staying at Orchard Road area, what is the best route to take from the end of the causeway? Thank you

Hi Abu, if you are driving a Malaysian Car, you will need an Autopass card. This card is essential for entry into Singapore.
You can apply for an autopass at the Singapore Customs after you pass through the Malaysia Customs.Check out the link here:
http://www.google.com.sg/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CB8QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lta.gov.sg%2Fmotoring_matters%2Fmotoring_guide_fregis_carbus_sub.htm&rct=j&q=autopass+malaysia+singapore&ei=8YgRTLGAA82HkQXUk-zIBw&usg=AFQjCNEO4d_6-iVlu4kXaR2lgxUmNN6yuw
Generally, most parts of the city ARE accessible via private vehicles, except that there will be jams in the City during peak hours.
If you are coming in from the Woodlands Checkpoint, drive BKE->SLE->CTE->Exit Cainhill Circle to hit Orchard Road.

Hi Admin,
I am a EP holder, been working in Singapore since 20/05/10. My question is, can I drive my Malaysia registered vehicle into Singapore?
From what I understand, residents of Singapore cannot drive a Malaysia-registered car in/into Singapore. Hence I would like to clarified am I classified under “Resident of Singapore”?
Under the Singapore tax residency rules, I will be regarded as a tax resident if I stay or work in Singapore for at least 183 days in a calendar year. The number of days in Singapore include weekends and public holidays.
Therefore, technically I should be ok to drive in a Malaysia Registered Vehicle into SIngapore, would that be right?

I find Tang Sue Wah’s question rather interesting and also found a loophole with Singapore LTA.
In order to drive into Singapore without paying SGD20 for VEP can be done based on following (Legally):
(1) Apply and sit for the taxi license.
(2) Purchase a Malaysian registered taxi and you are ready to drive into Singapore.
The only disadvantage is that I do believe that there is a restriction of routes within Singapore, which unfortunately I do not have the info at the moment.

Hi Persona, this might be a loophole but to get a Taxi License is not cheap! In fact, you will have to rent a taxi from the taxi company and this will be more than the S$20/day.

If you are getting a rented car, chances are that an autopass might had already been applied for the vehicle plate number already. Note that one vehicle plate number is only entitled to one autopass. Thus, it make sense to check against the rental company instead first.

You do not buy the autopass at the immigration booth – you clear the immigration booth first, after which look out for the autopass office located just before the customs check.

Hi Lis, unfortunately, the website is correct.
For work permit/EP holders, you have to keep the vehicles outside SG for at least 6 hours daily, else a fine will be imposed on you.
However, for normal visitors to Singapore from Malaysia (without employment pass), you can park the vehicle for up to 14 days in Singapore without exiting. Hope this clarifies!

I understand the 10 days free VEP per year, and $20 for subsequent days. But I’m not entirely clear on this:
- I go back to KL every weekend
- I will ONLY use the car to go back to KL, so that is Fri 8pm (eg), and back on Sunday 11pm (eg)
- Apart from that, my car will not be used on SG roads.
Is the VEP still applicable to me then?
Many thanks.

Hello,
I’m a singapore sriver driving singapore registered car into Malaysia. Able to advice the following.
Is it an offence to drive in malaysia if I cannot produce my driving licence on the spot during police check?
Can I produce it within 24 hrs?
Does the police has any right in detaining for not having the licence?

Hi James, it is not an office to drive in Malaysia if you cannot produce your driving license during spot check – however, it is really troublesome as they may bring you back to the Police Station until someone can bring the necessary documents for review. Some of them might ask you to ‘settle’ the case without going to the police station, if you know what I mean.

Hi Lawrence, excellent web here.
I’m planning for holidays to Sentosa Island this coming June with my wife and 1 year old baby, as follow :
1. Arrive in JB from KL around 2pm, then bring MY car to Sentosa Island, spend time there until say 12 midnite. back to hotel in JB.
2. Second day, spend whole day from 7am till 12midnite in SG and back to JB hotel.
My questions, since this is my first visit to SG by MY car :-
1) Do I have to pay for VEP (heard it’s FREE for 10 times/year)? If yes, how much?
2) How much ERP for those 2 days?
3) Do SG have time limit on IN & OUT from SG?
4) I know that Tourist Pass for MRT etc is SD8/day. Is it adviseable to bring MY car into SG, park, and ride MRT instead?
6) If I buy laptop and camera in SG, will there be any TAX? How much?
Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Hi Jaree
1. No, if you have not exhausted the 10 free VEPs/year.
2. ERP is $5 each day. However, note that you still have to pay an entrance fee to Sentosa.
3. No time limit for In & Out from SG. Custom is open 24/7.
4. Parking at Sentosa is expensive but on the other hand, you have a 1 year old baby – which in my opinion, makes driving worth the cost.
5. No tax, if you open the packaging and treat them like used item.

Hi Dafve, you have to be clear on your query.
First of all, if you are a EP Holder, note that you are required to drive your car back to Singapore on a daily basis. In addition, if you are a PR/Singaporean, you cannot drive a Malaysian Registered Car into Singapore. Likewise, if you are holding a FIN# under a social permit holder, you cannot drive a Malaysian Registered Car into Singapore as well (although to be honest, ICA and LTA seldom check on this).
If you are entering Singapore as a normal tourist, you can only stay in Singapore for 28 days. You can apply for season parking but only against a HDB unit #.

Hi Efren, are you still a PR in Singapore? If so, you cannot drive the Malaysian Car into SG, when if you password does not show any trace that you are a PR. Remember that the records are still with SG customs and they will be able to detect that at the customs booth when they scan your passport.

You have to buy a Singapore-Registered Vehicle. Alternatively, you can still drive a Malaysian Registered Vehicle but the vehicle cannot stay overnight in SG.

Hi Mavc, you can (2) and (3). However, you must remember that you need to pay the daily VEP as well as the salary of the Chaffeur. The current depreciation of a SG car is about S$7-10k/year, so you have to do your math and see which one works out better or more convenient.

hi! I’m Filipino and currently holding a work permit here in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. 2 weeks ago MOM approved my employment pass to work in a Singaporean Company somewhere in Raffles City so I already tendered resignation, with last day until end of April.
I have an appointment with MOM to present all the documents to get my ep card on Monday 25th April so I plan to use my present Malaysian COmpany’s Registered Car (Proton Wira)to transfer some of my things from my place in KL to Pasir Ris. My questions are:
1. My EP was already approved but the EP card was not yet received, so does this mean I can drive Malaysian Car and have it stated more than 24 hours in Singapore since I havent started working yet.
2. Is there any website for me to check if the car already have an AutoPass?
3.I’m using a Malaysian Probationary License (P-License), will i going to have some problem for holding only P-License?
Thanks and regards,

However, Singaporeans working and residing in Malaysia who need to make home visits to Singapore occasionally are allowed to drive their Malaysia-registered cars into Singapore on a case-by-case basis, subjected to prior approval from LTA (VEP fees will still apply).

1.I’m going to drive my malaysia registered car for 5 working days a week as well as stay overnight.
Within VEP,ERP and any parking fee,
how much does it cost roughly per month?
2.For my case, is it better to install an “IU” in my car permanently? How much is the ERP’s charges per day for both cases (with or without IU)?
(If I never drive through any ERP lane)
3. For registration of Autopass, what documentation is required entirely? This is a company-registered car.
3.Alternatively, any recommended and safe (strictly) car-park over JB area?

If it is under 2nd category, seems more doc to prepare. This car actually bought in West M’sia but still use East M’sia plate no, is it an issue?
2. to buy an autopass – do i need to bring original/physical reg.card, insurance cert and road tax(permanently on my car windscreen).
3. my travelling day may be on Saturday – pay VEP Fee?

Mr. Zainuddin, to answer your question:
(1) There is no problem if you drive in with your Sarawak or Sabah plate.
Sarawak plate is usually Q** while Sabah is SAA.
As far as I have noticed, there are drivers who only slot using cash card (SGD 1.20) without paying VEP fees upon departure at Woodlands checkpoint. I suspect that the ICA or LTA did not notice that not all cars with plate number SAA **** A are Singapore vehicles. (This is an example of a Sabah registered vehicle).
2. To buy Autopass – You only need SGD 10 / Passport / Valid Road Tax (Already on your windscreen).
3. No VEPs payable on Saturdays and Sundays.

Hi, this is very informative site. From zero knowledge I now can visualize the procedures.
I plan traveling to SG for the first time with my Nazaria MPV in two weeks time, but have few queries:-
1. I heard all those traveled in an MPV need to get down from the vehicle together with the bags etc at SG immigration checkpoint like bus passenger, as compared to those in sedan or SUV who just need to wind down the window glass and hand down all the passports. Is it true?
2. If I enter SG on Monday after 5pm and exit on Friday before 5pm, and I happened passing three (3) ERP gantries on Tuesday only, I need at least SGD85 to be reloaded in my Autopass i.e. VEP SGD80 (SGD20x4 days) and SGD5 for ERP. Is it correct?
3. Are there ways to ascertain how much we ought to reload Autopass before we exit?
4. Is Autopass counter is a drive-thru or do I have to get down from the car to purchase?
Sorry for long queries, but I think your answer will really benefit all. Thanks in advance.

2) A valid road tax for your vehicle
3) An Autopass Card

You will have some admin overhead when you depart for Malaysia at the Woodlands Customs, when they will retroactively collect the payment due from you.

I live in Malaysia, but my Malaysian license has not been done yet as it is in process. I am Indonesian, I have a valid Indonesian Driving License would that be possible to use that License if I were to drive to Singapore with a Malaysian Registered Car? Please let me know Thanks!

Hi,
I’ll be driving to SG next week for 3 days visit. I’m educated now regarding autopass and VEP but maybe not that of the parking.
I remember last year that i was in Singapore mobilizing our vessel in Tuas, we rented a Subaru Impreza car and everytime we parked, we were slapped with S$30 fine. I guess it has to do with that bloo** coupon. Where can i buy that coupon? Also, how do i pay for those mall parking lots without that window units?

Hi Chris,
1. Parking coupon can be bought at all 7-11, convenience stores, supermarkets widely available in Singapore.
2. For shopping mall, you will need your autopass card or a cashcard. There will be a stationary booth located just before the gantry for you to slot in the autopass/cashcard.

Hi Charles, yes you can. Depending on the type of carpark – it typically cost $90/mth for MSCP and $65/mth for open space car park.
Note that you will still have to pay the VEP fees as well, which can be costly if you are having an extended stay in SG.

Hi Adam, the Autopass does not have your personal particulars encoded. Only the vehicle registration details.
As such, you can either:
1. Give/Sell it to the new owner at the existing value
2. Refund it and ask the owner to apply for a new one

Hi, I was driving a Malaysian car in Singapore yesterday and while driving through an amber light (I was already approaching the line and would have posed danger if I braked) I saw a camera flash. Does that mean that I will have a traffic offence? How will I be informed whether there is a summon? I wonder whether I will be stopped at custom and disallowed to leave or asked to make payment before I leave? I appreciate your advice asap as I will be leaving Singapore tomorrow. Thanks.

Hi Jagdish, it is unlikely for the camera to flash while the amber light is still on. Most probably, you have crossed the red light right at the junction.
This means that you will have a traffic offence and depending on the speed of administration from the traffic police, you may be stopped at the customs. In any case, you will be asked to pay a fine even if you manage to get out of SG this time round.

Hi admin,
I have a few queries regarding driving a Malaysia registered car into SG.
First of all, I’m a Malaysian and holding an Employment Pass. I work as an Sales Engineer with a SG company. I stay in SG during weekday. Can I drive my Malaysia Registered car into SG for more than 5 days? It is because i work and stay in SG, so, my car will be park overnight at SG for at least 5 days.
What i know is that there will be a charges of $20/day for weekdays, and no charges on saturday, Sunday or public holiday. So, let say i driving my car into SG on Sunday, and leave SG on the coming Friday night. Is it ok for me?
Kindly advise..many thanks.

Hi admin,
From your advise previously:
For work permit/EP holders, you have to keep the vehicles outside SG for at least 6 hours daily, else a fine will be imposed on you.
Can I know the amount of fine that will be charged?
and i also understand from you that:-
(although to be honest, ICA and LTA seldom check on this).
I agree with you since a lot of malaysian who are holding an EP,staying at SG, but still driving their malaysia registered car into SG for the whole week(working days) without drive out their vehicle from SG for at least 6 hours.
Can I do the same?
Kindly advise..

Nevertheless, I suggest your friend call LTA at 1800 CALLLTA for advise. If your friend can prove that the vehicle cannot be moved out due to the damages, he/she should not need to pay the VEP fees.

I happened to find this :
WORK PASSES
Any work pass holder, who is neither a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) nor a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered car and motorcycle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met:
a)
he is the registered owner of the vehicle ;
b)
he resides outside Singapore;
c)
the vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more everyday ;
d)
he has a valid insurance certificate and road tax for the use of the vehicle on Singapore roads ; and
e)
the vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/exit at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints and for payment of Vehicle Entry Permit/Toll charges.
The (b) & (c) contradict with the 14 days stay of foreign-registered car in SG.
In addition, is that mean that I must proved that the car is owned by me with relevant documents in order to drive into Singapore. If i’m driving my foreign registered car under my father’s name, is that possible?
Urgently need help including the post above. Thank you.

Alright, again its me. I found a lot of contradicts in the above conversations. There are different explanations from admin or admins?
I restate my inquiries.
I plan to work as sales in SG. I need to drive Malaysia registered car. I guess i’ll obtain S pass at least.
(1)Can i drive in my car and stay overnight in Malaysia? (I questioned this because there are contradicts in the above comments, it said can stay not longer than 14 days?, means i can stay overnight?) http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/Calculate_Toll_ERP_VEP.htm
(2)What documents do i need to present for applying autopass card?
(3)Do i need to be the owner of the car?(Above comments said no need, however the links below says you need to be!)
http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/motoring_guide_overview.htm (under the WORKPASSES)
(4)Are my calculations correct?
1 month stay = (VEP-S$20 x 30 days)+(ERP fixed scheme-S$5 x 30 days)+(Tolls+Petrol- roughly $300) = S$1050 per month.
PLEASE help me!
P.S. The LTA website give insufficient info seriously.

Hi Sim, the autopass will expire after 5 years.
From http://www.lta.gov.sg:
===============================================================================================================
Your Autopass Card is valid for five years. There are three ways to check if your Autopass Card has expired:
1. Log on to ‘http://www.nets.com.sg/netscashcardservices/', click on ‘Check CashCard Expiry Online’ icon and enter the 16-digit number on the back of your card;
2. Send an SMS to 66888 stating ‘Expiry’ <16-digit Autopass number>. Please send an SMS to 02-66888 if you are in Malaysia.
3. Approach the officer at VEP/toll office in Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint for assistance.
If your Autopass Card has passed its validity period, you can continue to use it until the cash balance is used up. However, you will not be able to top up your expired Autopass Card.
Please purchase a new Autopass Card if your current card is nearing its validity date soon.
===============================================================================================================
The 10 VEP free passes allocated per your vehicle #.
With regards to your 2nd question, that will cost you SGD80 (or consume 4 free passes from your 10 free passes/year).

Hi Ravies,
a) The official answer from LTA is as follows:
The following requirements must be met when installing roof racks:
- The roof rack must be suitable for the vehicle.
- The roof rack shall not protrude from the vehicle body laterally and/or longitudinally.
- The installation must be carried out by qualified personnel in accordance with the product manufacturer’s recommendations.
- The loads (i.e. cargo and its carrier) carried on the roof rack shall not exceed the loading capacity of either the vehicle or the roof rack.
- The cargo shall be securely fastened to the roof rack and no part of the cargo or its carrier shall project laterally beyond the vehicle.
As long as your roofbox is not overly protruding, should not be an issue.
b) No issues. I have seen family of 13 (yes, 13!) pass through the SG customs with a Toyota Picnic.

This is one of the gaps still to be covered by the Immigration Authority. The gantry is lifted the moment the custom officer clears your passport, not when your autopass is cleared as well.
What you should do now is to call LTA at 1800-CALL LTA to get further advice.

Thanks so much for the info provided. I drove into Singapore without any hassles. Most important thing is “OPEN my mouth and ASK” right from 1st station (stamping passport) and I was directed by the ever friendly Singaporean officers.
Coming back to the Malaysian side was a not-so-nice experience. The Malaysian customs officer was rude and I found his facial & body experience repulsive. I mentioned the signage was not clear and that caused me to dive into the “wrong” lane – the nothing-to-declare- but the sid it is my responsibility to check before I drive in, plus can be compounded etc etc. Truth is I have NOTHING to declare.
Well, I can go on about this..but at the end of the day, I have to live with this because this is my country.

Eligibility is based on the driver, not owner of the vehicle. Thus, she can drive in if she is not a PR etc..

Your auto pass is valid for 5 years from Date of purchase. You can login to nets.com.sg to check the export date.
All major shopping malls in Singapore cater to autopass already, so you do not need an additional cashcard.

What about Malaysian registered motor cycles, can one ride one into Singapore. If one is working in Singapore and wants to stay in JB, can he buy a Malaysian M/cycle to ride into Singapore?
