4th Update: Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail CIQ (New Johor Bahru/ Johor Baru Custom) – Driving in

December 25th, 2008 lawrence.gan

Here are some updates if you are driving in to Johor Bahru:

1. Getting there: Just drive towards the old Johor Bahru custom and from there, it is one-directional to the new Johor Bahru CIQ/ Custom

2. Payment of toll charges: Only Touch and Go cards are accepted for payment of toll charges. As of now, there are still custom officers selling the Touch and Go cards for RM$20.00 at the vicinity before the immigration booths. Do get one now (or ask your friends who are going in to buy one for you).

2. White Card:  There is a booth just before the entrance of the CIQ for white card/ white form/ immigration card collection. Unfortunately, this will mean that you or one of your passengers need to get out from the car. (Very troublesome if you are driving alone, as there is no parking space and the car behind you will probably horn at you if you are away). Not trying to be kiasu here but for convenience, I prefer to request for plenty of white cards whenever I have the opportunity to collect them.

4. Queuing up:  The waiting area where the queue form up is much smaller compared to the old Johor custom. There are 3 main entry points leading to different queues and due to the layout of the booths, you will probably pass through the custom earlier if you queue at booths located further away from the entry points. In addition, the lanes are more narrow now so drive with car. Watch out for your side mirrors!

5. Stamping of passport – It is more the norm now for the custom officer to stamp your passport twice; one of them will be the normal stamp while the other indicates the latest date you can reside in Johor Bahru.

6. Security check: Security check is random and if you are unlucky to be flagged down for checking of your boot, they will probably just take a cursory glance.

7. Exit: If you are heading towards Crystal Crown hotel direction, follow the Jalan Tebrau sign. For “City Square”, follow the “Pusat Bandaraya” sign. If you want to go Tampoi, Tun Aminah etc etc.. well, if you know how to venture so far in to Johor Bahru, you should be as familiar as JB as I do. :p

8. Finally: Gentle reminder – Seat belts on for ALL passengers. You will need to pay a fine starting Jan 2009 if you (or your passengers) are caught not wearing seat belt.

Hi Kirsten, you may refer to this thread for some information.

    http://www.limsimi.com/2008/11/19/best-time-timings-for-traveling-in-out-of-johor-bahru-jb/

There will be a slight queue starting at 9am. If you can reach the custom at 8.15am, you can save considerable time from queuing.

Hi. Will soon be doing the once a year drive into M’sia for Qing Ming and have some questions about the new CIQ:

    1. I still have White Cards from before they decided to stop using them. Can they still be used now that they are required again? Have they made it easier to pick up the cards as one drives in or is it still as troublesome as described above?

    2. Are TnG cards still available from custom officers? If not, where to get one? Another problem is the cards become inactive if not used in 12 months and I only drive in once a year for Qing Ming.

    Hi BL,

    1. You can still use the white cards you kept. They have not change the form template. In addition, the white card booth is located right at the entrance of the Johor CIQ. The troublesome thing is there is not really a good place anywhere for you to stop the car without obstructing traffic behind you.
    2. TNG cards are available from the CIQ.
    Counter Operating Hours
-Touch ‘n Go Kiosk, JB Causeway Monday – Sunday 8.30 am to 6.00 pm (including Public Holidays)
-CIQ – Dedicated Sales & Reload Lane 24 hours

    Hi Lawrence,

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

    1. For the TnG cards, what’s the difference between the Kiosk and the Dedicated Sales & Reload Lane? Can I just drive up to the counter to purchase a card or do I have to park somewhere and walk up?

    2. Upon exiting the CIQ, is the Lebuhraya Tebrau the best way to get to the N-S highway? I usually go by Jln Tun Abdul Razak, Jln Skudai to get to the highway, which I believe saves a bit on the toll. Which exit to take to get on to Jln Tun Abdul Razak? Which way would you recommend?

    Regards,
    BL

    1. Kiosk is actually at the left hand side just before the OLD Johor Bahru CIQ. The signboard is big and noticeable. You can park near the kiosk and purchase a TNG card. Alternatively, some lanes in the NEW Johor Bahru CIQ sells and TNG card now.

    2. This depends on individual preference. Lebuhraya Tebrau is often jammed in the evening, especially on Friday and Saturdays. However, morning traffic is good and I will use that rather than Jalan Skudai.

Thanks for the reply again. I actually drove in last weekend.

    1. TnG card: Did not purchase at kiosk before old CIQ. Drove to new CIQ, saw sign saying Reload available at lanes A7 and C10, but nothing about sale of new cards. Asked a custom officer walking by and he directed another lady custom officer to sell me a new card, which I then reloaded at lane A7.

    2. Upon exit from the CIQ, kinda just followed the flow of traffic into Lebuhraya Tebrau… did not see any sign on how to get to Jalan Skudai…
