Jam at new Johor CIQ starts.. at the old Johor custom

It is rather unfortunate the first weekend of 2009 starts with a jam at the Johor CIQ. And there is obvious reason for that.
With only a 2-lane passageway leading from the old custom to the new one, it has created a serious bottleneck. And it is a long bottleneck, considering that this passageway stretches for 1km.

In addition, those taking public transport are seriously disadvantaged. With no dedicated lane for busesĀ at this passageway, buses have to wait in line for the traffic to move along. Compounded by the fact that passengers now have no option to alight and walk, this unnecessary delay is still posing a challenge to the Malaysian Authorities.
Extracted from The Star: The constant complaints faced by people using the new CIQ complex have reached the ears of Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, who wants the problems rectified.
He said he would visit the complex to understand the problems, adding that he had received feedback about the inconveniences faced by foreign tourists using the complex.
“Previously, tourist buses used a separate checkpoint, which was at the Tanjung Puteri Complex, but now they share the same immigration and customs counters with Malaysians and Singaporean travellers.
“This has delayed their journey,” he said at a press conference held at the inaugural shuttle train service from Danga City Mall to Tanjong Pagar in Singapore, at the mall yesterday.

Roads lead to the immigration stamping booths are to narrow. When 3 cars queue at the counter the 4th car will block the road leading to other booths lane

apparently, design not very well thought out by the Custom Department. Now that the concrete is laid, i wonder how they can still sort out the issues.

Only 2 lane!!!! 1 bus breakdown means there will be havoc in the queuing. I will be interested to see hhow the authorities handle it then.
