Mind the dogs, Johor Bahru

Limsimi.com - Beware
Visiting in Johor Bahru this Chinese New Year?
It is a common sight to see stray dogs roaming the streets in Johor Bahru. In addition, many houses in Malaysia actually have a watch/guard dog. I did a walk around my neighbourhood today with my 4 months old German Shepherd Dog. Encountered 6 stray dogs roaming on the streets within 10 minutes. Not really a pleasant note if you are not a dog lover, or worse still, you have some fear of dogs.

So if you belong to the non-dog lover kind, here are some practical tips in case you encounter the canine group during your CNY visit.
1. Stray dogs do not generally bite. If you do encounter them, do not appear to be afraid of them and just walk off confidently.
2. Do not provoke them.
3. If they run up to you, try to gently back off but not appearing afraid. Sometimes, they are just protecting their territory which you stand on.
4. If it seems imminent that they are going to attack you (in rare cases), use a stick/umbrella/anything else you can grab to scare them off.
For dog owners, please be responsible to leash your dog during this festive season as your visitors may not feel comfortable with a dog roaming around the house. It is the year of the Ox! Do not let the DOG get all the attention!

Hi, I have a GSD too and I walk the dog every weekend. When your GSD is 1 year old, you should see less stray dogs daring to crossing your paths..

why are there stray dogs? it’s irresponsible of their owner to let them loose. One of my family members got bitten by a stray dog once. She was my younger sister, she had to be rushed to the hospital to get an injection for rabies..

With vast plots of open land, it is hard to elimate these stray dogs. Even SG has stray dogs.. But I think it is irresponsible for owners to let those dogs they raise outsdor without tying them. Some dogs go well beyond their house boundary to bark at you. I am also scare by those who cage their big dogs outside their house. The dogs are cooped up for too long that they are so fierce.. Will surely bite if they somehow manage to get loose from the cage.
