Malaysian Politics – Nude Photos.. whats next?

First, we have the debacle in Perak.

2 assembly members who went missing (Jamaluddin Mat Radzi and Osman Jailu) on 25th Feb 2009 and notice of their resignation were soon received. Just when everyone else was wondering what happened, Jamaluddin Mat Radzi and Osman Jailu clarified separately in news conferences to state, categorically, that they have never sent in their resignation letter.

On 4th Feb 2009, 2 of them, together with Nasarudin Hashim and former DAP assemblywoman and deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong appeared in a press conference with DPM Najib in an apparent victory. The state of Perak has fallen to the Barisan National (BN) with these 4 “defectors”. All that is left is for the Sultan of Perak to either dissolve the assembly and call for fresh elections, or to select a new Mentri Besar from BN. He chose the latter.

Thinking that his removal is unconstitutional, former Mentri Besar, Nizar Jamaluddin threatens to sue the Sultan of Perak, sinking himself deeper into a political entanglement.

Is the removal of Nizar from his Mentri Besar post unconstitutional? Why did the 4 Assembly Members defect to BN? Are they under threat or treats? What is Anwar, as the head of PKR (Main opposition coalition), going to do next? Are the Perakians truly happy with BN taking over the state government? Even before these questions are answered, we have yet another fiasco in Selangor.

Elizabeth Wong, a Selangor Executive Councilor from PKR reported to the police on 16th Feb 2009 that nude photos of her are taken without her consent, and circulated.

It was reported that the naked photographs were taken while Wong, who is also the tourism, consumer affairs and environment exco, was sleeping.. presumably by her former boyfriend.

Elizabeth Wong has since offered to quit all her positions, paving the way for yet another by-elections, the third occurence in the past 2 months.

Political motives cannot be discounted and one really wonders… WHAT’S NEXT??! Malaysian politics are indeed more vibrant and interesting than Singapore! And some say darker as well!!

Note: If the intention of your visit here is to see her compromising photos, I encourage all of you to respect her privacy. From what we hear, the photographs you can find on the internet now are blur and of poor quality anyway.

 

ELIZABETH WONG’S STATEMENT IN FULL

I was informed on Friday, Feb 13, 2009 by journalists from The Malay Mail that they have in their possession intimate photos of myself and that the newspaper will be publishing a story about these photographs.

I was told that some people are trying to distribute photos/ videos showing me asleep in partial nudity and also in intimate positions.

The distribution and publication of these photos/ video is a malicious attack on my personality. This constitutes a gross outrage on my modesty, a gross invasion of my privacy, and in particular the sanctity of my personal life. It is being done by unscrupulous persons to embarrass and discredit me?

I am a victim in this incident.

I have yesterday lodged a police report in relation to this matter and I will fully cooperate with the police in their investigation. I will therefore not speculate publicly about those responsible for this gross invasion of my privacy.

I have received a lot of support from my supporters, friends, colleagues and members of my constituency. I wish to thank them for their concern, support and encouragement.

My family members are standing behind me. I would like to appeal to the media to give me and my family members some breathing space in this trying time so that I can weather this huge challenge.

I will in the meantime continue to carry out my task of serving the people of Selangor faithfully.
