Danga Bay Petting Zoo

Besides the Johor Zoo, there is yet another Zoo located right in Johor Bahru. And this is perhaps the more educational zoo, especially for your kids.

Located within Danga Bay, the Danga Bay Petting Zoo (mini-zoo) feature over 180 species of animals and birds. What makes the zoo really stands out is on how personal you can get to the animals. You get to:

1. PET on rabbits, monkeys, parrots.
2. FEED the deer and pheasants.
3. TOUCH the lion, tiger and black bears.
4. SEE a full grown elephant within 3 metres of you, and with absolutely no fences!

With over 20,000 visitors since its opening in 2007, you can’t go too wrong to check this place out.

Johor Art Gallery (Galeri Seni Johor)

Located at Jalan Petrie, near to Thistle Hotel and the Sultanah Aminah Hospital, the Johor Art Gallery (Galeri Seni Johor) is tucked away in a quite corner as a standalone building. The building was originally known as the Dato’ Abdullah Jaafar Building, built before the start of World War I in 1910. Unknown to many, this building was the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II (well in the first place, most of the locals are not even aware of the existence of this art gallery..)

Several transitions took place until the year 1994, when the building was officially launched to host the artworks related to the culture of Johor. In 2003, the Johor Art Gallery was enhanced with air-conditioning and improved documentation of artworks.

Dataran Bandaraya, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Dataran Bandaraya was built in Jan 1994 as a proclaimation of Johor Bahru as a city. In the initial years, it plays host to many performances and events. While the crowd has dwindled in recent years, you can still see people gathering here for a game of football (there are 3 fields facing Dataran Bandaraya) or simply for food, especially on Sundays.
