Comments on: Istana Garden (Sultan Garden) and the Sultan Palace, Johor Bahru

Hi i lived in jb in the fifties and sixties and the gardens were a favourite spot for convent school picnics at the end of the year. we were too poor to own cameras. Can those of you who have pictures taken during those years please share with me your pictures.

I dont have pictures but i have very happy memories of growing up in jb and attending two of the bes schools in the country, Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus and Johore English College. I thank Johore for the memories

The garden is closed for at least 2 years as per mentioned by the guard this morning. So no need to waste time to go there. Surprisingly there is no other good park as compare with the one around JB, Sad. what is the government doing for the welfare of the people. Always said people first. I think people LAST. So ….don’t vote BN……and time to let the Sultan live a normal life…….

A very Nice Garden to jog, BUT NEVER GO THERE or stay in when its about 7:00 pm!

Many, including myself, a lawyer friend and few other friends have been scolded by a VERY RUDE Guard with uncivilized words.

We have changed our jogging site to Taman Rekreasi Hutan Bandar where the guard there were very friendly

I jog at the Sultan Garden regularly for the past 10 years but have never seen the Sultan once. The only time when i can get to see the Sultan is on the roads when traffic police whizzes by and you see his car breezing through the traffic.

But this is a nice place in Johor Bahru and I will recommend this place to anyone who want to get some peace and serenity. And its nice of the Sultan to open this garden to the public.

In 1956, I was a member of the R.A.F. Changi Soccer team that played
an annual fixture here against the Sultan’s own Army team.
During the match, the Sultan came out in a sedan chair bedecked with plumes and watched the match.
We were made very welcome and enjoyed seeing the Palace and gardens.
It was a memorable experience for us all. I still have the photographs.
I understand the Palace was not at that time open to the public, so this was a rare treat.
