Map of Danga City Mall relative to Johor CIQ, City Square and Plaza Pelangi

January 7th, 2009 lawrence.gan

Recently, we have been receiving numerous questions regarding travel issues to Danga City Mall. We have decided to compile all questions into this post and the aim is to keep this post updated as and when new questions arrive.

First thing first.. The map:

Limsimi.com - Map of Danga City Mall, Johor CIQ, Plaza Pelangi and City Square

Limsimi.com - Map of Danga City Mall, Johor CIQ, Plaza Pelangi and City Square

As you can see from the map above, Danga City Mall is really near to Plaza Pelangi (1.5km), Johor CIQ (3km) and City Square (2.5km).

Getting there by Car – Driving Directions to Danga City Mall from Johor CIQ (Line in Green):
1. Take the left exit from the Johor Bahru CIQ (in the direction of Jalan Skudai and Kota Tinggi). The right exit takes you towards Stulang Laut.
2. Go up the bridge towards Jalan Yahya Aldatar (Do NOT take the Jalan Tebrau Exit) for 1.2km.
3. Continue along Wadi Hana for 600m (Keep left).
4.Take the left exit and turn right at the junction at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and you will be able to see the distinct Red Striped Danga City Mall (Formerly known as “Bestworld”). You will need to cut 5 lanes to the right and proceed to do a U-Turn to get into Danga City Mall carpark.

Getting there by train:
1. Hop onto Tanjong Pagar KTM Station and buy the ticket (still at SGD$3.00 now). Clear Malaysian immigration.
2. Board the train. Train will travel from Tanjong Pagar KTM station to Woodlands Rail Checkpoint for Singapore immigration clearance (30mins, including passport clearance).
3. From Woodlands Checkpoint, train will continue to JB KTM station. Note: JL Sentral, the new rail checkpoint is still not in use. In fact, they are still laying the train tracks at this moment. (20mins)
4. Train will then continue to Danga City Mall  (10 minutes)

FAQ

Q. Can I buy the train ticket online at KTMB.com.my?

A: Not at the moment. The website is not updated with the Danga City Mall destination yet.

Q. Do I need a white card for train transport?
A: Yes. You need a white card for entering Malaysia (Johor Bahru) regardless of the mode of transport and if you are a foreigner (including Singaporean)

Q. If I travel by train from Danga City Mall back to Singapore, can I exit from the Woodlands Checkpoint instead of Tanjong Pagar because I stay at the North?
A: Yes. You can exit from Woodlands Checkpoint.

Q. Can I board a train from Woodlands Checkpoint to Danga City Mall?
A: No. You can only board at the Tanjong Pagar KTM Station (Long story.. see comments)

Q. Can I buy a return ticket from Singapore-Danga City Mall-Singapore?
A: No. The Tanjong Pagar KTM station only sells 1-way ticket to Danga City Mall. You will need to get the return ticket from Danga City Mall station.

Q. What if I cannot get the return ticket from Danga City Mall?
A: Quite unlikely to happen. But if you if you really want to exhibit the Singapore mentality, you can buy the ticket the moment you arrive at Danga City Mall station. In any case, Danga City Mall is really near to Johor CIQ so you can take a cab to the Johor CIQ, lah!

Q. There doesn’t seem to have much information from Danga City Mall website.
A: Yes, the website is almost bare bone except for the directory listing. The mall is new but still not fully occupied with tenants. The main excitement to us is really the mode of transport. You will be surprised at the number of Malaysians and Singaporeans who need to traverse between Singapore town (City Area) and Johor Bahru. This mode of transport almost eliminates any concerns of human and vehicle jams faced at the new Johor CIQ.

Q. Can I continue further north by train from Danga City Mall?
A: Yes. For example, you can take the Ekspres Lambaian Timur train that departs SG at 5.35am and arrives at Danga City Mall around 6.20am. At 8.34am, you can hop on to the Ekspres Rakyat train at Danga City mall to Kempas Baru and then to KL and.. all the way to Ipoh!! Make sure you get the right tickets.

Q. I travel to JB from time to time. How far is Danga Bay City Mall from the new Immigration & Customs checkpoint. How do I go this shopping mall by bus from the JB customs checkpoint. There are buses along the road opposite the City Square Mall. What bus number can I take and how much is the fare.
A: It is just a 5mins drive. <-to update for bus information shortly>

Q. What are the main highlights of Danga City Mall?
A: The main highlight is the anchor tenant, Metrojaya.

Q. Any other attractions within the vicinity?
A: Not within walking distance. But it is near to the Sultan Garden.

Q. Anything thing else to note?
A: Train schedule changes often, without ample notice. It will be wise to call up KTMB to enquire about the latest train schedule.

To add on to your FAQ pls:

    1. When will the promotion of $3/trip be until?

    2. I am intending to bring a group of teenagers to JB. How can I do bulk purchases?

  • 3. adminNo Gravatar  |  January 8th, 2009 at 1:27 PM

    Hi Chong Hien,

    1. At least for this month (January 2009), it will sell for the promotional rate. I expect the price to at least triple once the promotion is over.

    2. You do bulk purchase just like a normal purchase. Buy direct from the KTM office in Tanjong Pagar station.

Before they launched the Danga City mall shuttle, the usual fare from T Pagar to JB KTM station is $5, 6, 10, depending on what time of the train. 2 wks ago, I took the 10pm one (Senandung malam) from TPagar, it’s S$6. So, I pressumed, aft the promotion, the price probably goes back to $6. Doubt it ll be triple the price or something.

Hi CH, again, it is our guess and we certainly hope they can continue to keep to the promotional rate. :)

Went to Danga City Mall last Saturday. The information provided in this website is good and I am able to drive to the destination easily from the ciq. Mall is very clean but still quite empty.. mainly fashion accessories, hair salon. And of course metrojaya.dun think will really attract guys tho. after 30mninutes, I left my wife there and went to service/wash my car instead.

Can I take train from Woodlands Checkpoint to Danga City Mall instead of Tanjong Pagar?

  • 9. adminNo Gravatar  |  January 12th, 2009 at 4:55 PM

Hi Mary, unfortunately (esp for people staying nearer to the North), you cannot board the train from Woodlands Checkpoint to Danga City Mall. The only boarding point in Singapore is the Tanjong Pagar KTM station

You can however alight at Woodlands Checkpoint when you return from Danga City Mall. May sounds weird but this is the rules/procedure that is currently laid out.

Since there is this facility of the train going from Tanjong Pagar to danga Mall, and it does stop at woodlands checkpoint for the immigration n customs, why cannot the passengers also board the train from woodlands, people who stay in marsiling woodlands yishun upto ang mo kio, do they need to go all the way to tanjong pagar, i hope ktm will do something about it, if we can get down at woodlands why cant we board the train from woodlands?

  • 13. hauNo Gravatar  |  January 19th, 2009 at 1:39 PM

I guess it is because the Tanjung Pagar train station is owned and operated by Malaysia since the independence of Singapore, very probable the railway is owned by Malaysia as well.

In view of this, unless Singapore give permission to allow Malaysia setup additional train station at Woodland, or Malaysia let Singapore operate the Woodland train station, boarding train at Woodland is impossible.

The last time, they even hanged a “welcome to Malaysia” note in front of the train station at tanjung pagar. Shortly after, they removed it. quite a sensitive arrangement because the land does indeed belongs to malaysia. and i bett they will not doing anything for the communters by opening new stations and risk further entanglements in this delicate issue.

I went to take the KTM train from Tanjong Pagar station to Danga City Mall on 19 Mar 09. The ride for 2 pm is $5 instead of $3. Also, the seats are not guaranteed as it is a short trip. Only those travelling further after JB will be given seating number. Usually, you have to sit at those empty seats facing opposite the moving direction of the train.

They will annouce the stop. ALso, watch out for the signboard at the platform. shortly after the train cross the causeway into jb stop, the next stop is danga city mall.

i have not take the train yet but this is what my fren says.

  • 20. LinNo Gravatar  |  May 8th, 2009 at 11:37 AM

Don’t take the train there. I took it on Sunday. There was no seats given. They told us to sit at the canteen first until the train made a move. The damn canteen was so hot it felt like an oven. I asked the staff. They said that the canteen is no longer in use. When the train moved, we found seats but had to get out of the seats at the Johor Baru station since got passengers who occupy the seats there.
We had to stand all the way to Danga City Mall.

When we reached there, the shopping center is totall just a Ghost town. There aren’t many people there and the shops there are just so boring. Metrojaya barely has anything nice. We then wanted to take a taxi to our hotel. Waited outside the shopping center and there was not even one taxi that went into the shopping mall area. Taxi stand was occupied by cars that have been parked there. Had to wait 20-30 min to get a cab. Had to walk out with our luggages. So much for their “SERVICES” that they state at their website. Lousy.

  • 21. LinNo Gravatar  |  May 8th, 2009 at 11:40 AM

Paid $5 for the 2pm train and we were treated like people who did not purchase tickets. They’re just trying to earn quick money. Im never taking the train again. Taking the Singapore cab to JB is more worth it. Comfort+Quick.

  • 22. JosephNo Gravatar  |  January 20th, 2010 at 12:52 AM

Are taxis readily available in any parts of JB?
Can we flag down any taxis along the road in JB to any destinations within JB?
Is it safe to ride on a taxi alone and does the taxis in JB use the meter?

    Thanks

  • 23. adminNo Gravatar  |  January 20th, 2010 at 8:51 AM

    Hi Joseph,

you can flag down taxis from main roads and there should not be issues if you travel within JB. Prices are negotiated and meter is generally not used.
Another alternative is to call cab: Tel: 3388255.
