Pelangi Golf Driving Range, Johor Bahru
November 1st, 2010 admin
Located at Jalan Serampang, Johor Bahru, Pelangi Golf Driving Range was closed in Jul 2009 and re-opened 2 months later with slight refurbishments – mats were replaced and the number of driving bays was reduced to 20 at each level (2 storey driving range).
For Singaporeans and Johoreans seeking a practice session at a driving range, Pelangi Golf Driving Range is ideal as it is not crowded throughout the day and week. In addition, it is centrally located at just a 5 minutes drive away from the Johor Bahru CIQ (drive from Stulang Laut). Golf balls are sold at RM$12/100, similar to the price you get in Singapore (pay in cash).
There is a MST Golf Shop located at the driving range which sells entry level golf clubs and accessories, and more importantly, cold refreshments. While the driving range is not crowded, common etiquette applies where you should minimize distractions other golfers. No teaching is also allowed at the driving range, unless you are a certified Professional.
Overall, Pelangi Golf Driving Range is a good place to start learning golf. One thing to note though, is that the netting on both sides of the driving range seems a little low, especially on the left hand side where construction of a highway towards Nusajaya is in progress. Therefore, it might be more practical to reserve usage of your 450cc driver only when you are at a certain standard and can hit the ball straight without hooking (left curving)!

I been there once in 2009. The Carpark is a little bumpy. Golf shop prices not cheap in my opinion and does not carry much brands. Was looking around for cobra and taylormade clubs and not a single club of the brand was in sight.

Hi Pei Ling, yes, a handicap obtained in Malaysia is recognised in Singapore, as long as your coach is a recognised PGA member. I have no issue playing golf in SG, nor does any of my malaysian friends. I am not sure how much it cost now but the last time I learned, it was RM2000 for 10 lessons and 1 9-hole exam. I totally screwed up the game but I still got my handicap.
