Johor Bahru Healthcare – Usage of CPF Medisave

April 10th, 2009 lawrence.gan

Beside nursing homes/ old folk’s home in Johor Bahru, there may soon be another compelling reason why more Singaporeans will look northward for health treatments.

Usage of CPF Medisave or payment of medical bills overseas (including Johor Bahru) might soon be possible. This covers non-urgent hospitalisation, palliative care as well as nursing homes charges. Currently, MOH has only allowed the use of Medisave overseas under strict conditions such as emergency treatment.

The idea that is not lost in the Ministry of Health (MOH) really, is to ensure all Singaporeans have access to affordable healthcare, and not just developing Singapore itself as a world-class health care provider. Over the years, MOH has received requests from many Singaporeans to allowing usage of Medisave for elective hospitalisation overseas. Extending the usage of Medisave overseas is a viable option towards affordable healthcare.

So, here is a listing of hospitals/ specialist centers in Johor Bahru/ Johor that you might want to keep in view for your next health screening, minor operations (chuey! chuey! chuey! Touch wood!) or simply, for retirement.

Just want to add on a point which might be missed out before you seek healthcare treatment in JB: Most of the medical fees in Singapore are subsidised, so make it still works out cheaper in jb after considering the subsidy.

The logo for Johor Bahru Specialist Hospital and Puteri Specialist Center looks almost identical. :D

JB hospitals are not world renowned. Otherwise, there is no reason to cross the bridge and put yourself into an unease.

In addition, will be good to see more corporate hospitals in Singapore setting up branches in Johor Bahru. Some examples include:

    1. Thomson Medical Center
    2. Raffles Hospital
    3. Mt Alvernia

Having a brand certainly matters and so far, only Regency Specialist Hospital seems to be the more “branded” one set up in Johor Bahru. Even then, it is not comparable to the 3 hospitals I mentioned above.
