There is no right or wrong.

Regardless of the arrangement, the key is to ensure the emotion state of your elderly. They should not be made to feel neglected or isolated.

The elderly may feel that if they are sent to JB, they are dumped away by their children. I have seen extremes of both cases.. children whom has sent their parents to JB and took pain and keep a very strict timetable for alternate visit, such that every weekend, there is someone who visit regularly, so that their parents still have the attention from their children. Some made it a point to bring their young children along too, to liven up the mood during visit. Some brought home-made porridge to their parent's liking. The others brought along the Chinese Lian He Wan Bao.

On the other hand, if you look at some of the cases in local nursing homes, some elderly has not had a single visit from their children for years!

At the end of the day, if you are already intending to send your parents to a nursing home, does it make a difference where it is going to be?

i was like many of you who were against the idea of sending parents to homes in malaysia. but my own predicament made me realise sometimes you really don't have a choice.

i am an only child with 2 elderly parents. my father amputated both his legs and have a history of stroke.

my mother cannot handle the stress of having a maid at home and she definitely can't take care of my father as she is also old. I have a decent income but not enough to sustain a home stay for my father in singapore.

so what choice do I have? He is still in a singapore home but I am seriously exploring malaysia as an alternative.

so before you start critising, think about what others may be going through.

I am already lucky as my income is still ok. I shudder to think about those single child who aren't as lucky off as me.

Karma..Karma..I hope this is true that one gets. My brother (WINSON) actually ignore and neglect the sickness of my father. My father was left alone in his tiny room without care and concern. Everyday, he gets some water to drink and has to wait all day to get some food. WINSON is a rich man running a few food outlets in Singapore, one in Eastpoint and the other in Tampines Mall. He drives a big car and having a maid not only to take care of his household but also working in his food outlet. His wife (Hazel) is a mean and cruel person. They both used my father to look after his childrens for years and now that he is sick they simply let him suffer alone without offering any medical help. I hope their 2 sons (JORDAN and DONN) know what they did to their Grandfather and will return the same treatment to their cold blooded parents when they get old.

Hi Salina, another option would be to get a maid for her. Hope things will turn out better for you.

Dear friends, I really envy those of you who can take care of yr old folks. I would like to take care of my mum who is 76 yrs old and had bouts of dizzyness. But I'm staying abt 50 kms from her. Due to her weaknesses during her healthy days and her stubborness which results in her current situation, my hubby and brother in law do not agree that she stays with us permanently. Besides, me and my mum are of different religions. Now the only solution is me travelling to her house abt 1-2 times a week to help her do her housework. When I need to go and visit her, I've to send my hubby to work and fetch him from work as we shared a small car. Yes, it's tedious and I'm looking for an old folks home to send my mum. Welfare one as we can't afford nursing homes. But it doesn't mean that we'll wash our hands, of course we'll go and visit her once a while. Can anyone help?I'm desperate !!
